Audubon is a charming census-designated place in the township of Lower Providence, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Lower Providence Township is comprised of Audubon, Eagleville, Providence Square, Shannonville and Evansburg. Upper Providence Township lies to the west, Perkiomen and Worcester Townships to the northeast, West Norriton Township to the southeast and Schuylkill River to the south. Audubon has a total area of 4.5 square miles and at the time of the 2010 census had a population of 8,433 residents. Audubon was named for John James Audubon the famed naturalist, ornithologist, and painter in 1899.
Audubon lies across Schuylkill River from Valley Forge National Historical Park. King of Prussia Mall, one of the largest in the country is just five miles from Audubon. Mill Grove, built in 1762 was once home to John James Audubon and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Mill Grove is a 175-acre estate of fields and woodlands and remains largely as Audubon left it. Mill Grove serves as an educational center for the National Audubon Society which is dedicated to promoting the love of and respect for nature. The property is a haven for wildlife and features seven miles of trails and exquisite scenery. Original Audubon prints, oil paintings and Audubon memorabilia are on display in the historic three-story farmhouse.
